Kwikset 912
I initially just set the lock up and placed it on my desk.
Setting the lock up was mostly a very simple manual process. You have to add batteries, and plug the two sides together, but to see it work, that is really all. You can work you way through the website - https://www.kwikset.com/support/productdetail/912-smartcode-electronic-tustin-lever-with-z-wave-technology. Or you can just follow the directions - https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/3d/3dbc5840-026f-4740-a22c-1ec2686c6e81.pdf (another copy is here - https://kwiksetprodstorage.blob.core.windows.net/documents/kw_is_5049718_912.pdf)
Once I got the batteries in etc (I did not bother with the handles), I added the lock using Configuration > Integrations > Z-Wave > Configure
I checked my home assistant interface. The lock was not 'found' initially, so I rebooted the device. The way to do this is not very clear. I went to Supervisor > System, and selected "Reboot"
After the Raspberry Pi rebooted, the zwave found the lock. I could see it on the main 'overview' page.
I did not get a screen cap before renaming the 'device'. But here is how it looked after I renamed it "Scottish Room". NOTE: Renaming the device is not necessary. It does make it easier to identify it though.
Renaming the Device
I renamed it by going to Configurations > Devices,
Then selecting it from the list. (I do not remember exactly what it looked like originally, but there were only two 'Z-Wave' integrations, and the other one was the 'Usb Stick')Now the computer was up, the dongle was working, and the device was recognized. The next thing to do was to make the device react to things I did on the webpage.
